This baked camembert recipe is absolutely delicious! Oozy, melty, cheesy goodness; a simple, stress-free holiday starter recipe or for sharing.
Take a hunk of crusty bread and dip it in - perfect for sharing (if you really have to)! 😀
Why you should make this
This simple starter is perfect for Christmas, New Year, Thanksgiving, or Valentine’s Day, though I’d be happy to tuck into it any day!😋
You can prepare it in advance and pop it into the oven when ready - it takes just 20 minutes to bake.
Which Camembert is best for baking?
You need to find a Camembert that is in a wooden box unless you are using a ceramic Camembert baker. Read on to find out how to bake Camembert.
Can you bake Camembert in a cardboard box?
In a word, no! You cannot bake it in a cardboard box unless you want to meet with a bit of trouble! 😱
You can use the wooden box it came in, just be sure to remove the paper wrapper first. Keep in mind, though, that not all come in a wooden box.
Camembert looks fantastic served in its wooden box, but I prefer using a baker with a lid. However you choose to bake it, the process is simple and the result is absolutely delicious.
What to serve it with
- crusty bread
- bruschetta
- crackers
- vegetable sticks - if you want to keep the calories down!
- cooked baby potatoes, perfect for dipping like a simple raclette for one
Can you eat the skin on Camembert?
Yes, you can, and it's delicious!
Don't like honey?
If you don't want to use honey, you can instead rub the scored skin of the Camembert with garlic and then drizzle it with a tiny amount of white wine.
Or you can add finely chopped crispy bacon; the topping is up to you.

Baked Camembert with Honey
Oozy, melty, cheesy goodness, perfect for sharing; if you really have to!
Ingredients
- 1 x 250g (0.5lb) Camembert cheese
- 1 clove garlic - peeled, cut in half for more of a garlic flavour
- 1 tablespoon of runny honey
Instructions
- Remove the cheese from its box and remove any wrapping or labels.
- Rub the garlic all over the top of the cheese and add the smallest amount of olive oil, which will help you to rub the garlic more easily.
- With a sharp knife, make a criss-cross pattern in the top rind of the Camembert.
- Drizzle the honey over, then replace the lid on the box.
- If you're using a wooden box, place the Camembert into the box and onto a sheet of foil on a baking tray.
- If you're using a Camembert baker, place the cheese inside, cover with the lid, and set it on a baking tray.
- Keep an eye on it while baking in the oven for about 20 minutes, until hot and bubbling.
Notes
The timings and quantities are for a 250g/0.5lb Camembert. If your cheese larger, you will need to adjust the timings accordingly. Take care not to overcook it or it will dry out.
