Perfect Combo - Slate and Wood Serveware by Judge

Now I do love a nice bit of real slate so I'm quite excited about the new Slate and Wood serveware collection from Judge Cookware.  Altogether there are 8 pieces in the collection; 5 Platters, a Lazy Susan, a Cheeseboard with Cloche and a Cheeseboard and Knife Set.

The platters and lazy Susan are great for displaying tasty nibbles for sharing such as my Goats Cheese Mini Tarts; some with Roasted Peppers and the rest with Caramelised Red Onion.

Goats Cheese

No proper recipe for these as they are so simple to make.  Just cut circles out of ready rolled shortcrust pastry and put them into a Yorkshire Pudding or Muffin Tin - this will give them a little bit of curved shape to enable a filling to be added later on.  Bake in the oven 200C 400F or Gas 6 for about 15 minutes.

Remove from the oven and top with a small amount of soft goats cheese then add caramelised onions or roasted peppers (the peppers I used come in a jar) just drain them from their oil.  Pop the tarts back into the oven for a further 4 to 5 minutes to heat through.

Cherry Ice Cream Sundae - Served in a Margarita Glass

Hands up who likes Ice cream?
Hands up who likes Cherries?  Okay, I bet that's pretty much everyone!

Cherry and Vanilla Ice cream served with fresh Cherries surely has to be the best.  Of course if you then add pieces of crumbled Meringue and a good dollop of whipped Cream, top the lot with Cherry Sauce you end up with something really quite special.

Presentation of your ice cream sundae doesn't really matter since it will still taste the same whatever you serve it in.  But of course it's no secret that we eat with our eyes so to speak, therefore these gorgeous Margarita Glasses from House of Fraser really do turn a simple looking dessert into a beautiful thing.

Margarita Glasses

Ready to dive in?

Anyway, back to the Margarita glasses!

House of Fraser

Sold in a box of 4 and they're in the House of Fraser sale; at the moment they're HALF PRICE at just £17.50 which in my opinion is a right billy bargain.

Margarita glasses are of course perfect for serving Margaritas; not only are they absolutely gorgeous to look but are perfect of other cocktails too; and of course making a simple dessert look extra special.

These glasses dishwasher safe but hand washing is recommended; personally I wont be putting them in my dishwasher since it takes little effort to get them sparkling clean after use.  They're a nice size too which means you get a good sized Cocktail or a decent size dessert; no short measures!

Product code:  215025198 (set of four)
These Margarita glasses and other lovely Glassware are available from House of Fraser stores and online.
Diameter  11.1 cm
Height  17.2 cm
Volume  340 ml

On the side of the box there are two recipes, one for Classic Margarita Cocktail and the other for the well known Eton Mess dessert.

Disclosure:  Many thanks to House of Fraser for sending me these glasses to review.  As always all thoughts and opinions are my own.  I was not required to write anything positive.

Succulent Chicken Satay Skewers

What gorgeous weather we've been having lately!  With the summer now in full swing everyone's enjoying the chance to get the BBQ out and sit outside to eat; what a difference a bit of sunshine makes.  I like most people certainly feel better when we have nice sunny days!

I'd never used black treacle in cooking before but this recipe from Lyle's was not only simple to make (and inexpensive) but it was also really, really tasty; yep this is a keeper.

Nothing says summer quite like the smoky-sweet flavour of a classic BBQ.  Black treacle is perfect in summer for BBQ glazes, marinades and sauces, adding a distinctively dark colour, delicious burnt caramel flavour and moisture to summer dishes.  Lyle's Black treacle worked really well in this recipe, it added a nice depth of flavour to the dipping sauce too.

Boozy Tiramisu Recipe

Coffee comes in many different varieties ranging from weak to strong in taste such as espresso.  I say espresso is for proper die hard coffee lovers since it is very strong, personally as a drink it’s too strong for my liking.  But with that said there are many recipes in which espresso can be used and nothing but espresso will do.

Have you ever tried making your own coffee ice cream or granita?  Coffee granita (a semi-frozen dessert made from sugar and coffee) is another favorite of mine as it is so cooling and really refreshing on a hot day.

Then there's Tiramisu; I really like the bitter-sweet taste of the coffee soaked sponge topped with sweetened Mascarpone.  By the way there's no cooking involved, it's pretty much effortless to make and can also be made in advance making it the perfect dinner party dessert.

Tiramisu needs to be made with strong coffee and so espresso is perfect.  Of course like most people that are into coffee we have a coffee machine to get the perfect espresso.  Paul (the husband) is a true coffee lover but the pods are so expensive it kinda gets out of hand keeping up with the cost!
