Ninja Foodi Roast Chicken

Steam roast chicken in the Ninja Foodi Max 15-in-1 is such a timesaver with the time to cook significantly reduced.

Whole roast chicken (2kg in weight) cooked to perfection in just 45 minutes!

With the ever-rising energy costs, a multicooker is the way to go. It's a cheaper way to cook everything, not just chicken!

Price

I must point out that the Ninja Foodi Max 15-1 SmartLid Multicooker is not exactly cheap to buy, however, it will save you from using the oven and therefore save on your energy bill - happy days!

I bought mine from John Lewis and at the time of writing (October 2022) John Lewis, Argos and Curry's are the cheapest selling at £249.99 - even Ninja themselves are charging £50 more at £299.99 😕

Please beware of Amazon who is sometimes, trying to sell it at a silly high price.

Top Tips!

The 15-in-1 comes with a digital cooking probe and offers the 'steam roast' cooking function, which is the main difference between this model and the 14-in-1.

The 14-in-1 does NOT have the steam roast function.

About the temperature probe: I've added this bit since a reader left a comment below asking why I hadn't used it.

To be honest, I have tried the temperature probe that comes with it a couple of times on a whole chicken and both times the temperature was wrong, indicating the temperature had been reached after just 30 minutes.

But, when I checked other parts of the chicken were well underdone. 😐 So, I always trust the Thermapen since all good chefs use one as it is seriously accurate.

Ninja Foodi Max - curry in just 12 minutes!

Using pressure cook mode it can cook chicken curry in just 6 minutes (plus time to get to temperature) which is also about 6 minutes.

But come on, chicken curry in 12 minutes - that's impressive, I haven't actually written a post on that yet but it's on its way!

Put the ingredients into the cooking pot, shut the lid and select HIGH pressure and set it to Quick Release.

I've used mine so many times, we loved these roasted chickpeas

Steam roast chicken

I cooked this as part of our Sunday roast dinner, so I only added a little salt and black pepper, but of course, you can add spices such as paprika or cayenne, whatever you like, a BBQ rub for example would be a great choice 😋

You can create a perfect roast chicken in under 1 hour with the Steam Roast function and Smart Cook System can easily cook a delicious 2.5kg roast joint with tender, crispy results.

Tender, tasty and moist chicken with next to no effort at all.

How to use the steam roast to cook a chicken in the Ninja Foodi Max 15-1

Be sure your chicken has been out of the fridge for 30 minutes otherwise, the cooking times will be wrong, this would apply if you were roasting in a regular oven.

Add 250ml of water to the ceramic cooking pot and put the cook and crisp basket in.

Using butcher's string, loosely tie the legs of the chicken together - just to keep them out of the way.

Rub a little softened butter along with a drizzle of oil over the chicken and season with salt and pepper.

Slide the lid lock to the middle position and select Steam Roast. Set the temperature to 180°C and the time to 45 minutes.

I have found that it's best to turn the chicken around halfway through cooking to ensure it cooks evenly.

It's easy to do, just use a tea towel (be careful the pot is hot) turn the cooking basket a full 180 degrees and shut the lid again - the cooker will automatically continue to cook where it left off.

You really should have a kitchen thermometer so you can be sure your chicken is cooked - it takes the guesswork out of cooking.

Check that the chicken has reached no less than 75C (167F)

I go for 80C (175F) remember the chicken will get hotter as it rests and therefore continue to cook.

I highly recommend the Thermapen kitchen thermometer but any kitchen thermometer will be better than none.

Important!

As with any method of cooking a chicken or meat, you should allow it to rest. Cover the chicken with foil and leave for 20 minutes before carving. This, my friends, is the secret to tender and moist meat or poultry.

  1. Hi there,

Out of curiosity if you have the 15-in-1 (which you have to for the steam roast function) why are you not using the included probe on the machine instead of guestimating time based on weight of chicken?

    1. Hi Anon - good question! I really ought to have mantioned in my post, so I will amend it.
