Chicken Pot Pie with a Suet Crust

This is a recipe to serve 2 in an OvenLove casserole dish from Premier Housewares which are coated on the inside with Teflon.

So, with that in mind, I came up with this time chicken pot pie.

Chicken Pot Pie with Suet Crust

Premier Housewares have just added these lovely casserole dishes to their existing OvenLove range.

The Teflon coated non stick interior means they are easier to wash up than any other with no need for soaking and very little effort is needed to get them back to looking brand new.

Available in 0.9 litre and 2-litre capacities the Casseroles come in Burnished Red and Pristine White.

The casserole as with the whole Oven Love range is very affordable in price.

The existing range incorporates oval, round flan dishes, rectangular and square dishes all items are Microwave safe, Freezers safe and Dishwasher safe. Suitable up to 230C/450F or Gas 8

I cooked the filling in the casserole (in the usual manner lid on) and then removed the casserole lid and popped on a suet crust.

Returned to the oven to cook until the crust was done and then served straight from the casserole dish.

How to make Suet Crust Pastry

This recipe makes enough to cover a small 0.9-litre casserole dish
Prep time: 10 MinCook time: 30 MinTotal time: 40 Min


  • 350g self raising flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 175g Atora suet - at room temperature
  • about 200ml cold water
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 egg yolk mixed with a tiny bit of water to glaze


  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, suet and baking powder.
  2. Stir in and mix approx 200ml cold water to form a slightly sticky pastry.
  3. Roll out on a floured surface to about 2cm thick.
  4. Use the pastry straight away and pop onto the top of your pie.
  5. Brush with the beaten egg yolk (mixed with a tiny bit of water) and bake in your already preheated oven to 200C/400F or Gas 6 
  6. It'll take about 25 to 30 minutes or until the pastry is cooked through.
