Can you freeze chilli con carne?
Yes, absolutely! Just make sure to let it cool completely first, then transfer it into a clean container before freezing.
However, if you're using chilli that has already been frozen, then DO NOT freeze this recipe, as the chilli would have been reheated twice. 😨Then, when you want a quick dinner, all you have to do is defrost the chilli and reheat it in the microwave, but be sure to check that it is piping hot.
Or you can do what I did: preheat your oven to 200°C/400°F or Gas Mark 6, but first, make sure you have some leftover Chilli con Carne. 😉
Ingredients
- cooked and drained pasta spirals
- leftover chilli
- mozzarella
- cheddar cheese
- a sprinkling of paprika
Top tips!
When cooking your chilli, take your time and don't rush it; this will make the flavour much richer and more delicious.
Always opt for good-quality tinned tomatoes—personally, I recommend brands like Mutti or Cirio.
Balsamic vinegar adds a little sweetness to the dish, but only if you have balsamic with a nice and thick consistency; otherwise, just add a tablespoon of regular tomato ketchup instead.
While reheating your leftover chilli, cook some pasta in salted water as per the packet instructions.
I like to use spiral-shaped pasta, but feel free to use any shape you prefer.
Drain the pasta and stir through your chilli. Put the lot into an ovenproof dish, and top with a mixture of Mozzarella and Cheddar.
Sprinkle some paprika on top and cover with a lid or foil until it's fully heated.
Remove the cover in the last 10 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbling. Serve with a side salad and enjoy.
