SPAM is so easy to cook; slice it, dice it, fry it, grill it the choice is yours.

Easy dinner idea

Of course, you can even serve SPAM straight from the can as it's already cooked, just add egg and chips for a super-fast dinner everyone will love.

But it's not all SPAM and chips! There are so many options for fast and tasty meals.

Why not try my SPAM® and Baked Bean Hash for an easy, cheap, quick and filling dinner that the whole family will enjoy; especially the kids.

Money-saving Tip!

You might want to buy the bigger 415g tin of beans, use half and keep half as they are cheaper to buy. The same goes for the SPAM as it is also available in a larger tin.

Just be sure to store it correctly in a suitable container in the fridge. They will both keep for a couple of days.

How to find out the size in litres of any dish or bowl

The pie dish I used was 0.5ltr in size. How to tell the size? Simply fill your dish with water and see how many millilitres it holds.

SPAM Hash with Baked Beans

SPAM Hash with Baked Beans

This recipe serves 2-4 kids depending on their age.
Prep time: 5 MinCook time: 25 MinTotal time: 30 Min

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 1 x 200g tin of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham - cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 x 200g tin of Baked Beans
  • 1 medium-sized onion - thinly sliced
  • 8 to 10 cooked (leftover) baby new potatoes - skin on and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • a little Cheddar cheese - grated
  • a sprinkling of freshly chopped parsley

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 200°C/400°F or Gas 6
  1. Wash the potatoes and cut them into bite-sized pieces leaving the skin on.
  2. Put the potatoes into a small saucepan of lightly salted water and bring them to a boil.
  3. Turn to simmer for about 5 minutes or so until they are cooked - take care not to overcook or they will be mushy.
  4. Drain and leave in the still-hot saucepan for a couple of minutes; just to dry off the excess moisture.
  5. Put the oil into a medium-sized frying pan to heat then add the sliced onion. Cook over low heat stirring till the onions are soft.
  6. Turn the heat up and add the potatoes and SPAM® and stir for a couple of minutes. Now add the beans to heat through.
  7. Add the mixture to a suitable sized pie dish and top with grated cheese.
  8. Cover with foil and put the dish onto the middle shelf of your preheated oven.
  9. Cook for about about 20-25 minutes until piping hot. Remove the foil for a couple of minutes so the cheese melts.
  10. Once done top with the parsley and serve straight away.

  1. I sometimes slice it thinly and add it to rice, sweetcorn, peas and red peppers to create a savoury rice dish. I also use it in sandwiches for picnics. When I was younger and at the end of a drunken night out, I would often treat myself to a spam fritter from our local chippy on the way home!
