Best Guacamole Recipe

Okay, what I think is best might not be yours but I say this really is the best guacamole recipe out there!

Plus it's the only guacamole recipe you'll ever need.

Guacamole is easy to make and ready in minutes. An easy way to add flavour to any meal. It’s also a great snack for kids and adults alike.

Oh yes, this is good stuff, it's such a delicious dip, but when you add red peppers and tomatoes it really takes guacamole to another level.

I wrote about guacamole before, but that was over 4 years ago, and now this recipe has since become our favourite.

There really is no excuse for not making your own guacamole. It's so very easy to make and is nothing like the shop-bought pureed green stuff you can buy in a supermarket.

What's more, avocado is packed with nutrients so go on, give it a go!

What is guacamole?

Guacamole is an avocado-based dip, spread, or salad that apparently was first developed by the Aztecs in present-day Mexico.

In addition to its use in modern Mexican cuisine, it has become part of international and American cuisine as a dip, condiment and salad ingredient.

I've added red pepper as well as tomato since I love the extra-bright red the diced pepper brings to it.

With Christmas and New Year parties coming up impress your guests with your homemade guacamole and a bag of tortilla chips at the ready then dive in!

What can you serve with guacamole?

Guacamole is perfect with:

  • Tortilla chips
  • Fajitas
  • Plus it's perfect for watching a football match or super bowl!

Homemade Guacamole.

Can you freeze guacamole?

Some say you can, but I would not recommend even trying, it really won't taste fresh, and the avocado will turn brown. 😳

Tips!

To make sure your guacamole stays fresh, store it in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Don't add the coriander until nearer serving as will turn horrid.

What ingredients are in guacamole?

  • Red onion
  • Red chilli
  • Sea salt
  • Hass avocado
  • Lime juice
  • Red bell pepper
  • Ripe tomatoes
  • Fresh coriander
  • Black pepper

Equipment

You will need a Pestle and Mortar, I particularly like this Jamie Oliver Granite Pestle and Mortar which is available over at Amazon.

If you use a food processor you will lose the texture and your finished guacamole will not look half as appetising.

Homemade Guacamole Recipe

There really is no excuse for not making your own guacamole; it's so very easy to make and is nothing like the shop bought pureed green stuff you can buy in a supermarket.
Prep time: 10 MinTotal time: 10 Min

Ingredients

  • ½ a small red onion - very finely chopped
  • ½ a red chilli - deseeded and finely chopped
  • a good pinch of Maldon sea salt
  • 1 nice ripe Hass avocado
  • ½ a lime - juice only
  • ¼ red bell pepper - deseeded and diced
  • 1-2 ripe tomatoes - peeled, deseeded and chopped
  • a small handful of fresh coriander - chopped
  • a pinch of black pepper to season

Instructions

  1. Put a quarter of the onion and half the chilli along with a few chopped stalks from the coriander and just a pinch of salt in a pestle and mortar and mash to a rough paste.
  2. Cut open the avocados, remove the stones and scoop out the flesh into the pestle (or into a large bowl if your pestle is small).
  3. Roughly mash the flesh with a fork, adding half the lime juice as you go.
  4. Stir in the rest of the lime juice and chillies, chopped coriander, red onion and tomato.
  5. Season with plenty of black pepper and more salt if you think it needs it. If it doesn’t taste delicious by this stage, you can add more lime juice or coriander.
  6. Serve with tortilla chips.
