I must say I really do love my Tefal ActiFry and I have to admit before I had one I thought they were all about chips; but I was wrong, check out my Sweet Chilli Chicken Wings recipe. The ActiFry is fantastic for cooking speedy and healthier meals; my sweet and sour chicken cooks in under 30 minutes. Armed with my now ageing Tefal rice cooker cooking the rice for me, dinner was served in next to no time and was virtually fuss free.
Please note; I used the Tefal ActiFry Express XL for this recipe which does cook up to 30% faster than the ActiFry Family. Therefore timings may have to be increased by a couple of minutes.
I used Ketjap manis which is Indonesian sweet soy sauce but you can use dark soy sauce if you don't happen to have any. I really like it as it's thicker and sweeter and it can be found in any good supermarket in the World foods section if it isn't with the Chinese ingredients.

Takeaways are big business in the UK with Brits spending more than £6 billion on takeaway meals each year. But this means that in just one year Britons feast on more than 12,000 tonnes of saturated fat from those takeaways. As Friday night is the most popular time for Brits to order a takeaway, Tefal asked me to take part in the ActiFryDay Challenge which is to swap a Friday night takeaway for healthier alternatives.
Supplied with the ActiFry Express XL, the recipe and ingredients I was all set to cook!

Chips was the first thing I cooked - within an hour of this machine arriving chips had to happen. Soft and fluffy on the inside, crispy (yes really) on the outside, but we'll talk about chips another day.....
Chicken wings with a nice sweet and spicy coating topped with toasted sesame seeds are so good to eat. But for good measure I wanted more - how about if they were coated in a Chinese Five Spice batter, fried using hardly any oil, and then coated in Sticky Sweet Chilli goodness - how does that sound?
Would the batter actually stay on the wings or would my bright idea turn into a disaster? Read on to find out.
My ActiFry arrived as a result of a challenge set by Tefal which was to cook my guilty pleasure. The lovely Camilla over at Fab Food 4 All was sent an ActiFry for the challenge. Once she had cooked her guilty pleasure she had to nominate someone else to take on the challenge and she chose me - Cheers Camilla!
On with my Sweet Chilli Chicken Wings. You will notice the batter is quite thick - I decided it would have more chance staying on the wings once cooking in the ActiFry.
You will need a Tefal ActiFry:
20 chicken wings
1 tablespoon Chinese five spice
1 egg - free range of course and lightly beaten
*You will also need 1 tablespoon oil for cooking in the ActiFry
The sauce isn't anything tricky - mix together in a small bowl and set aside:
100ml (half a bottle) Sweet Chilli Sauce (Blue Dragon original dipping sauce) available in any good supermarket.
1 tablespoon Ketjap Manis - Indonesian sweet soy sauce - just use dark soy if you can't get it
1 teaspoon soft brown sugar
a couple of tablespoons of toasted sesame seeds to sprinkle
How to do it:
Put the flour and cornflour into a bowl along with the Chinese Five Spice and add the egg and give it a good mix. Add the water and whisk till there aren't any lumps. The batter will be quite thick but fear not - it will be fine. No need to add salt to this mixture just the five spice will be fine.
Trim the very end part (the bit with no meat) off of each chicken wing and discard. Pop them into a large bowl and pour over the batter. Mix using your hand to coat each wing well.
Add the wings one at a time to the ActiFry. Drizzle with one spoonful of oil, shut the lid and set the time to 30 minutes.
Now after a few minutes of cooking I thought I'd done a wrongen - oh my, the batter wasn't looking good in the ActiFry. BUT after 15 minutes it all looked okay and although the wings didn't stay perfectly coated they were looking good.
In any case these wings were going to get a coating of sticky sweet chilli goodness and since they weren't being judged by Monica on MasterChef it really didn't matter.
Once they emerge from the ActiFry using tongs as they are piping hot, coat each wing in the sticky sauce and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds. The wings were perfectly cooked and not at all dry. Yep we're very impressed with the Tefal Actifry.

Yes I'm still raving on about the Tefal Cook4Me! Over the weekend I thought I'd try one of the desserts. Since I'd recently been given a cook's blowtorch to review I wanted an excuse to play with it! My review of that will of course be in a separate post.
Crème brûlée in the Cook4Me was a doddle to make and turned it out perfectly. I must point out the recipe instructions are a little odd as they say to serve 2 people you will need 3 ramekins - then again Paul (the husband) would agree with that meaning there's one more for him!
On another note the measurement for caster sugar just says 2 but 2 what is the question. Now it's no big deal although I understand fully if you hadn't got a clue how to make Crème brûlée this would leave you wondering. Well the answer is 25g or 2 tablespoons I've decided anyway, and it worked out just fine.
One more thing is the vanilla extract isn't mentioned as to when you add it but again, it was easy to realise it gets added in when you add the cream.
Anyway, with that said I still don't have a bad word to say about the Tefal Cook4Me - I've tried a good few recipes now and up till this one I'd never found a fault.
I think you'll agree the Crème brûlée looks pretty good. It emerged from the machine with a perfect wobble and for those that follow me on Instagram you will have witnessed that by way of a instavideo!

The Tefal Cook4Me is a Multicooker which means it can brown, cook, reheat, steam, pressure cook, or cook 50 different pre-programmed recipes or be used manually to create your own thing. All in all this really is a brilliant invention. Having been sent one to review (you can read about the Cook4Me in more detail here) and also see how easy it is to make a dish such as Beef Madras in just 20 minutes.
Well today let me tell you about this seriously quick and very tasty Sausage Casserole with cooking time of just 9 minutes. No fancy ingredients either, in fact I used a shop bought cook-in sauce in order to show just how very easy and simple this multicooker really is.
The Cook4Me as I said come with 50 pre-programmed recipes and to create your own recipe is just find a similar recipe, in this case it was Sausage and Bean Casserole. Now, none of the recipes are difficult at all nor do they require any fancy ingredients. But the pre-programmed recipe called for dicing a carrot and a red pepper and a glass of red wine. Okay that's nothing tricky as I say but what if you actually can't be bothered to even do that?
So, armed with a jar of sausage casserole cook-in sauce 'Homepride' if you must know!
I chopped an onion and a few mushrooms which you don't have to but doing so will of course give more flavour. I then selected the sausage and bean stew recipe on the Cook4Me and browned the sausages and onions as instructed. Then I poured in the cooking sauce, closed the lid and waited a whole 9 minutes for it to cook! Now, this caught me out a bit since the mashed potatoes weren't ready. All my fault as it does tell you at the start how long or should I say quickly it will take to cook. Please note the cooking time of 9 minutes is to serve 4 people - to serve 2 people the cooking time is less and just 6 minutes!
Anyway, no need to fuss since the Tefal Cook4Me automatically switches to keep warm. Food can be kept warm for up to 90 minutes.
Up next time is soup using a pre-programmed recipe but I can't decide between Butternut or Leek and Potato, what do you reckon?

Imagine being able to cook a Beef Madras Curry with a cooking time of just 20 minutes? Fantastic, but only of course if the beef is juicy, tender, full of flavour and tastes good.
Well, this Beef Madras using casserole beef (braising steak) actually did cook in 20 minutes and it was seriously good. Oh yes we're seriously impressed with the Cook4Me Multicooker from Tefal.
Having recently been asked if I'd like to review the Tefal Cook4Me Multicooker the answer was of course yes please!!
I wasn't really sure what to expect since I've never had a multicooker before and wasn't quite sure how they worked. So, armed with lots of questions as soon as it arrived I wanted to use it!

Having recently been sent the Tefal Optigrill I wondered if it really would be as good as they say it is.
The Tefal Optigrill uses sensor technology to measure the weight and thickness of different meats to decide how long it will take to cook them. For steak, the grill alerts you when the meat is rare, medium and well done. Fantastic as you can take out a rare steak while leaving the rest to continue cooking.
