OXO Good Grips Clean Cut Pizza Wheel - Review

New from OXO Good Grips is this rather ingenious pizza wheel. The Clean Cut Pizza Wheel is comfortable to hold and easy to use and the large (approx 4 inch) stainless steel wheel cuts though pizza thin or thick crust effortlessly.  As the Good Grips name suggests it really does give non-slip grip.

The blade guard makes it safe to store since it doesn't fall off easily which is a good thing but it pulls off quite easily when you're ready to the pizza wheel.  I love the slim-line design which makes it suitable to store in a kitchen drawer.  So it was out with my old and rather bulky pizza wheel and into my kitchen drawer with this one!

Cleaning:
It opens a bit like a CD case allowing the blade to be completely removed for easy cleaning and is dishwasher safe too.

Yep, I say this is yet another excellent product from OXO Good Grips and with a RRP at £10 - I say it's well worth investing in one.

Cherry and Chocolate Meringue Dessert

How can anyone resist a bowl of lovely cherries?  This simple dessert can be made in a flash - Meringue nests and whipped cream topped with fresh cherries and drizzled with melted chocolate.

Did you know that tomorrow July 16th is National Cherry Day?  Cherries are so nice to eat but the pesty stone inside does make them a bit messy.  However, the new Cherry/Olive Pitter from OXO Good-Grips makes it a doddle to remove cherry stones without mess, making them so much nicer to eat and ready form some sort of dessert or make a sauce.

Here are a couple of pictures I've taken showing the Cherry Pitter in action:

Remove the stem from a cherry and pop it into the holder - stem side up.  Press down to remove the stone.

The OXO Good-Grips Cherry Pitter also works on large cherries too.  Once you've finished just remove the splatter shield by twisting to clean.  Dishwasher safe but it really isn't necessary, hot sudsy water will do the trick.

Why Cherries are Good for You - text from The Guardian Online.
Anthocyanins in cherries appear to have a marked anti-inflammatory action. Specifically, these compounds seem to be highly effective in treating gout, a condition that causes painful swelling in joints. Last year, a Boston Medical Center study reported that eating cherries reduces gout attacks by 35%. Cherries are also one of the few food sources of the hormone melatonin, which regulates sleep patterns. A study published in 2011 in the European Journal of Nutrition, reported that eating tart montmorency (or morello) cherries significantly raised levels of melatonin and improved sleep. Compared to most other fruits, cherries are low in sugar, which makes them an ideal choice for people who want to lose weight.

To find out more about the Cherry/Olive Pitter and their other great products pop over to the

Celebrate National Cherry day and have a go at this dessert!

Ps:  All the while I was typing this post I kept typing the word 'cheery' instead of cherry - but if they help you get a good nights sleep then that in turn will make you cheery!

Many thanks to Zara and OXO Good-Grips for sending me this product to review.

Strawberries and Ice Cream Eton Mess Dessert

Now this dessert came about since I couldn't wait to try out the Strawberry Huller - new from OXO Good Grips and of course the Berry Bowl.
Perfect for summer this Eton Mess style dessert takes no time at all to make and makes perfect eating whilst watching Wimbledon!

First things first - you need good tasty strawberries and it has to be said these strawberries (kindly sent to me from Berry World) were seriously the best we've ever had.
The 'Sweet Eve' is a truly British born-and-bred strawberry. They were so, so sweet and juicy and really didn't need anything else with them.  But I was asked to make a dessert and so I did!

The new Berry Bowl from OXO Good Grips is really handy and just the right size to hold a full punnet of strawberries.  There's a colander so you can wash and drain your berries before removing the hulls with this neat Strawberry Huller, also from OXO Good Grips - more about that in a bit.

Mediterranean Vegetable Moussaka - National Vegetarian Week

As we all know the popular Greek dish moussaka traditionally uses lamb, but as it's the start of National Vegetarian week (19th May to 25th) I thought I'd give moussaka a go using just vegetables.  Let me tell you it was truly delicious and every bit as tasty.
To make slicing, peeling, chopping and measuring easier OXO Good Grips kindly sent me a lovely range of tools for the job.

First up this rather useful hand-held mandolin slicer enabled slicing potatoes into even slices a doddle.

An aubergine was sliced and ready to cook in next to no time:

The hand-head mandolin is easily adjusted by a simple slider on the side so you have a choice of three different thicknesses from approx 1mm to 5mm.  One thing I will say is personally I would have liked the slicer to have one more thicker setting than the max it has of about 5mm.  After use the blade is set to the lock position making it safe to store with the guard in place.

Next up, the Herb Mincer - a fantastic little gadget.  The top opens up to allow easy cleaning and it can go into the dishwasher if you wish.  Safe to use since your fingers aren't near the blade when using.  It chops herbs in seconds just by rolling back and forth and comes with a blade guard for safety when storing.

Scrubbing vegetables is once again made easy with this comfortable to hold Vegetable Brush - I didn't need to scrub my potatoes as I was about to peel them for this recipe.

The OXO Good Grips Y-Peeler is the very fellow for this - nice thin slices means there's no wasted veg:

How many times have you gone to measure out a teaspoons of spice from a jar to find your measuring spoon will not fit the jar?   These slim measuring spoons are brilliant and the teaspoon easily fits into these slim spice jars that many of us I'm sure have in our cupboards.

All in all each of these products are of good quality as always from OXO Good Grips and you can find out more over at the OXO Good Grips website.  All products shown above are dishwasher safe.

  Now with my recipe!

Food Preparation - Right Tools for the Right Job

As we all know whatever it is you're doing having the right tools for the job helps you get it done easier and quicker.  This is especially true in the kitchen - for example, every good cook needs a good knife, chopping board, mixing bowls and a measuring/pouring jug to name but a few.  Having the right equipment makes for better results too.

I'm a huge fan of OXO Good Grips since their products actually work and do the job they say they will.
Having recently been sent the Batter Bowl and the Large 3 Piece Bowl and Colander set to review here's how it went.

Banoffee Pancakes - Easy Dessert Recipe

Light fluffy pancakes filled with caramel sauce, bananas, whipped cream and topped with flaked chocolate can only be a good thing.  Since they can be eaten cold and still look and taste every bit as good later on the same day, why not make them before dinner cover the plate in cling film for a no fuss delicious dessert.

Having been sent a couple of  OXO Good Grips products and set a challenge of coming up with a pancake recipe here's how it went.  Okay, I'm a bit early as Pancake Day isn't until 4th March but yesterday I was in a pancake making mood.  In any case it doesn't have to officially be Pancake Day to enjoy pancakes!

Ice Cream Trigger Scoop - OXO Good Grips

When you can't decide which flavour ice cream to have out of raspberry ripple, strawberry or vanilla, the best plan is to have a scoop of each!

This ice cream Trigger Scoop from OXO Good Grips gives you perfect scoops every time.

In all this hot weather we're having lately, pictures of ice cream are tricky to take!  Let me tell you I had to take this picture at 6am this morning and still the strawberry ice cream at the back was melting.....good excuse to have to eat it quickly though!

Simply scoop your ice cream from its container and press the lever to release.  The swing lever is really easy to use and the scoop is made from sturdy stainless steel.  The handle is made from plastic and is non-slip so it doesn't slip out of your hand in mid scoop!

Easy to clean too, either in some nice hot sudsy water then rinse and dry, or you can pop it into the dishwasher.

Thank you to Cherelle and OXO Good Grips for sending me one to review.

Quick and Easy Salad - OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner Review

Spin up a delicious and easy salad with the new OXO Good Grips Little Herb and Salad Spinner.  Perfect for cleaning the leaves of those 'Living Salads' you can buy these days.  Or of course, if you grow your own then that's even better!
I'm not a huge fan of the pre-packed salads you see in supermarkets.
Why?  Because they have their shelf-life extended using 'modified atmosphere' packaging, which creates a balance of gases inside the bag to retain moisture and prevent browning.  Research has shown that a manufacturing technique used to keep the greens crispy for longer also destroys vitamins and protective anti-oxidants.

So with that said, much better to buy an OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner and wash your own leaves!
This newly designed 'Little Herb and Salad Spinner' from OXO Good Grips is excellent and serves as an attractive salad serving bowl too.

One-handed operation, the non-slip ring on the base sticks to your worktop whilst spinning salad in next to no time.
At the press of a button, the brake mechanism stops the spinning immediately.  The flat lid makes storage more convenient and comes apart for cleaning at the press of a button.  I love the shape of the bowl which has a wide base and a flat top.
There's a non-slip ring on the base which makes it stable even when spinning at top speed!
The flat top of the spinner makes storage convenient in either the refrigerator or cupboard.  This spinner is available with a green or clear basket.

Personally I like the clear basket - don't you think it looks good?

The inner basket can be used separately as a colander and the
The elegant, clear bowl is perfect for serving too.  Top-rack dishwasher safe Made from BPA-free plastic.

Salad of Baby Leaves, Peppers and Plum Tomato with Feta:
So simple there isn't a recipe!
Just wash and spin some salad leaves of your choice in your OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner.  Add halved baby plum tomatoes, diced bell pepper, sliced spring onion (if you fancy it) and crumble over some feta cheese.
Season and dress with your favorite dressing - job done.

Thank you to OXO and Cherelle for sending me this to review.

Sweet or savoury they can be whipped up in next to no time, especially if you have the right equipment.
