Foodie Roundup - Zesters Graters Chocolates Snacks Nibbles and Beers

A quick roundup post of some of the lovely new products which I've been very kindly sent this month to try.
Microplane® Premium Classic Zester
The long, narrow, rasp-style design of the Premium Classic Zester is now available in white and grey and combines a long-lasting stainless steel blade; 400 micro-teeth with an ergonomic soft-touch handle to produce a high-performance grater.  I really love this grater it does a fantastic job with little effort.

Microplane® Gourmet Series
Red and green are the latest additions to the paddle-style Gourmet Series.  Five graters are available including Coarse, Fine, Ribbon, Large Shaver or Extra Coarse which deliver various grating results to suit your needs.  All blades have been made in the USA using clever photo-etching technology to make an extremely sharp blade - the Gourmet Series cuts quickly and effortlessly through hard and soft foods without tearing.
I say Microplane are the bees knees of graters!

Roundup - Charcuterie Wine and Recipe Books!

A roundup of new and exciting food related products that I've been lucky enough to receive this past month - please note they are listed in no particular order.

The Carnivore Club

This is British Charcuterie at it's best; each box delivered to your door from Carnivore Club contains between 4-6 handcrafted cured meats from top artisans.
Our box arrived in perfect condition and the contents were from Deli Farm Charcuterie in Cornwall.  Our box contained Sliced Coppa, Spicy Chorizo, Pancetta, Devil's Poker (a spicy salami stick) Garlic Salami and Coppa Chops.

I must say we're really impressed with the whole thing from the packaging, delivery and quality of the meats.  The Carnivore Club is a great way to try many different cured meat products and also to learn about them too.  A really helpful booklet is included in each box and explains more about the supplier and the products included in the box.

Subscription members pay £29/month and sign up for a 3 month minimum, and can cancel anytime once that period has passed.  However, if you don't want to join the club you can order a single box for just £32

The Carnivore Club is also available in the USA and Canada.  Treat yourself or send a box as a gift.

**I have a discount code for my readers - to receive 20% off your first purchase - please use Oil20 at checkout.

Wilde Thing wine by Lisa McGuigan

Fourth generation of an Australian wine dynasty, Lisa McGuigan launches her self-titled collection of wines in the UK. Lisa combines a wealth of wine knowledge and a flare for fashion to launch an Australian wine that speaks to consumers rather than intimidating them.

Now I know very little about wine but what I do know is we both loved this.  Nice and refreshing and really easy to drink.  Perfect for sharing a bottle in the garden on a nice summers day or, if you ask me, any day for that matter!

Wilde Thing RRP: £7.00
Chardonnay Pinot Grigio
Clear pale straw in colour
Aromas of apple and pear combine with peach on a fruit forward nose
Palate: Apple and peach on the palate are complimented by a long refreshing finish

i heart Wines

The grapes for the 2013 i heart Pinot Grigio were sourced from all over Hungary.  This is a fresh, crisp, dry white wine.  Delicate citrus aromas and lemon and lime flavours, with great balance and freshness on the palate.  Best served chilled - a great match for grilled white fish, seafood salads, chicken dishes or simply on its own.

As I mentioned before I know very little about wine - all I know is I either like it or I don't and this Pinot Grigio was easy to drink and very refreshing and yes I really liked it.

Foodie News - Roundup October

Time for a quick roundup of some great food products I've been kindly sent over the past few weeks and some brilliant news about how Ocado is helping small suppliers....

Ocado helping small suppliers:
Ocado have done a fantastic job in helping small suppliers, by way of being able to stock and support small suppliers unlike a regular high street supermarkets.

For example, Rubies In The Rubble, or more specifically Alicia and Jenny, create all their delicious chutneys from discarded fruits and vegetables, from farms and markets.  As a business, they are all against food waste using their products as a solution to it, and as a way to raise awareness about the issue in general.
The idea is that the jars themselves are little gleaming examples of how you can transform what would otherwise be discarded into something really worth keeping, by valuing your resources and making use of what you have.

Hannah Rhodes was the winner of Britain’s Next Top Supplier campaign for creating Hiver Honey Beer  Hannah received a £10,000 marketing prize, as well as being stocked online at Ocado, giving her the big break she needed.  Since then, she has had the resources and confidence to approach pubs around the UK to be stocked in those too.

Holy Lama Spice Drops were runners up but still received listing online at Ocado.
Ocado will continue to search for great small suppliers to be stocked online and to give them the chance of being recognised.
Other's small suppliers Ocado are helping include Plenish and The Grown Up Chocolate Company.

Rhythm Health:
Rhythm Health have just introduced 100% Virgin Coconut Milks consisting entirely of first-pressed coconuts, sourced from the Philippines without any added water or sugar.   Available in regular and naturally reduced fat both of course 100% Virgin Coconut Milk.

These coconut milks are gluten-free, dairy free, and vegetarian and vegan friendly.  Stored in the fridge as they are a fresh product they brilliant for a range of recipes from Asian-inspired curries, to desserts, smoothies, soups and salad dressings.  The 200g pouches are available from Holland & Barrett and other independent health food stores nationwide.  You can find out more over at the Rhythm Health website.  I tried these in an Indian style curry and they do actually add a really creamy taste and added depth to the dish.

Prestat Chocolates:

Oh my Black Forest Gateau Truffles, need I say more?  As you know I'm not a fan of chocolate but Paul (the husband) absolutely loved these and yes he ate them all.  Prestat are committed to trading fairly.  Their chocolates are hand-crafted and they have a range of chocolate gifts to suit different budgets.  Check them out over at the Prestat website.
