Bear in Mind your Star Sign when Deciding what to Eat

There are many aspects of life that can be explored using our zodiac signs; the most obvious of which is when you’re thinking about your love life and who you might be most compatible with. Then, of course, we can use astrology when considering a career change, as certain character traits – and suitability for certain roles - seem to follow with whichever star sign we are.

But did you know that there are certain foods that are supposed to suit certain zodiac signs better than others? Maybe you take astrology seriously and have regular astrology readings like those available at TheCircle or perhaps you just tend to glance at your horoscope in the paper and see if anything chimes with how you’re feeling at that moment. Either way, it makes sense that if our star sign affects our character and love life, it might also be relevant to what foods work for us.

Take a look at the foods most recommended for your star sign (along with those to avoid) and discover whether you’ve been eating them already. If not, you could try a few of them and eliminate some of those suggested as ones to avoid.

Water signs - Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces
They say water and oil don't mix and that seems to be the consensus in the astrological world for those of us with a water sign. If you're a water sign, avoid oils in your diet, along with salt and refined sugar. Scorpios should also keep yeasty foods out of their diet, while Pisceans should avoid coffee and yeasty foods.

Instead, focus on healthy helpings of what, rye, oats, fruits such as plums and peaches, green salads, steamed vegetables, beans, tomatoes, beets, and pumpkins. These black bean and vegetable burritos are great to try out for anyone who has a water sign.

Fire signs -  Leo, Aries, Sagittarius
Those of us with fire signs should steer clear of spicy foods, counter-intuitive though it may seem. Alcohol is also something to only consume a small amount of too. Leos aren't supposed to get on well with dairy, while Aries should watch out for too much salt in their diet. Sagittarians should keep a check on how much refined sugar they consume.

Whole grains and rice, on the other hand, are foods that work well for fire signs, along with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as pulses such as beans and lentils. Dried fruits are also good, along with garlic. This lentil and spinach soup is a great dish for a fire sign.

Air signs - Aquarius, Gemini. Libra
For anyone with an air sign, it's good to get a reasonable level of nuts such as almonds, walnuts, and hazelnuts into your diet. Also, fruit such as apples, oranges, and grapes are good choices, as well as spinach, tomatoes, and some spices like cayenne and ginger.

You should avoid yeasty foods, and Geminis and Librans should limit their coffee intake, while Aquarians should avoid alcohol and fizzy drinks. A great Air sign meal is this Thai tofu stir-fry.

Earth signs - Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo
For those people with Earth signs, the advice is to avoid heavy and rich foods and keep a limit on the carbs. Virgos and Capricorns should cut out chocolate too.

As to the foods that work well with earth signs, it comes as no surprise that lots of fresh fruit and veg are included, as well as sprouts, whole grains, beans, cereals, almonds, and flax seeds.

Think about making meals that are appetising yet light. For instance, this mint and coriander Vietnamese salad should hit the spot.

It’s no surprise that a lot of the recommended foods on this list are healthy ones and that those that don’t sit well with certain star signs are the usual suspects that we ought to be cutting back on. But try it out for yourself and see if your body is aligned with the same foods that your star sign suggests it should be!
