Pizza Express Christmas Menu - Review

Have you seen the new Christmas Menu from Pizza Express? I have! 😋 On Friday night we were invited along to our nearest Pizza Express which for us is in Southwater Shopping Centre, Telford. First of all I must say what a lovely bunch of staff they have in that place, they're all very helpful, smiley happy people.

By the way by 'we' I mean me and Paul (the husband), anyway on with the menu. As far as the actual Christmas menu goes there isn't a massive amount to choose from which is sometimes a good thing since I would tend to spend half the evening wondering what to have as I'm quite greedy and always end up wanting what the person next to me chose!

Anyway it was all rather lovely I must say. To start, we both had Roasted Tomato, Roasted Red Pepper and Mascarpone Soup. The only other choice (on the Christmas menu) was Chicken Liver Pâté which we're both not fans of. Of course there are plenty of other yummy starters on the usual menu. The soup was actually really very moreish, tasty, and piping hot. The addition of mascarpone makes it the soup lovely and creamy. It's topped with croutons, pesto and fresh basil and I want this soup again!

Telford town center has the German Christmas market on at the moment and before going into Pizza Express we'd just had a walk around that and let me tell you it was freezing cold outside so a hot bowl of soup went down well. We also had Garlic and Mozzarella Bread - told you I was greedy 😊

Roasted Tomato Soup

For the main course I chose the Beef and Horseradish Romana Pizza: Pulled Beef and horseradish, garlic roast potato slices, fresh rosemary, red onion, tomato and mozzarella finished with fresh parsley and Gran Milana cheese. I'll be honest of course, and it isn't a pizza topping I'd have normally chosen but it was far better than I imagined. My only criticism is that for me, it could have done with a bit more horseradish and a little less rosemary but that's probably just me.

One thing I do love about Pizza Express nothing ever seems too much trouble; it's worth noting for example, you can always ask them to go lightly with the rosemary or add a bit more and they'll even bring you Tabasco sauce to your table if you want it.

Pulled Beef and Horseradish Pizza

Paul had the Potato and Fontal Romana Pizza: This is the vegetarian option from the Christmas menu and is Fontal cheese with garlic roasted potato slices, béchamel sauce, red onion, baby capers and fresh rosemary, finished with fresh parsley and Gran Milano cheese. I suppose because this topped mainly with potatoes it is even more filling than any other pizza on the menu. Even greedy Paul couldn't finish it all.

We both love spicy food and so for us we both thought it needed something to spice it up a bit but obviously not everyone likes spicy food and so this would be the perfect option whether you're vegetarian or not, this pizza is full of flavour in the way of cheese, garlic and rosemary. We both tried some of each other's pizza and we both preferred the Pulled Beef and Horseradish over the Potato and Fontal.

Of course we just had to have a side of Coleslaw - the 'PizzaExpress' Coleslaw is the best but I seem to have missed it in my photos. It's a lovely and crunchy mix of white cabbage, carrot and onion with a chipotle spice in a nice creamy dressing.

Now it was time for dessert and we ordered two and again tried each other's.
We loved the Snowball Dough Balls. The already famous Pizza Express dough balls sprinkled with cinnamon and icing sugar. They are served with a choice of vanilla cream dip and a chocolate straw or you can have a salted caramel dip. A lovely member of staff 'Maisie' gave us both dips to try and my favorite is the salted caramel whilst Paul prefered the vanilla cream. After a large pizza I'd say you really only need to order one of these desserts to share since they are very filling even for us!

But wait there's the Caramel & Pear Gelato! Oh my goodness this is the BEST ever dessert. Creamy caramel & cinnamon gelato with real pear pieces and a pear ripple, served with salted caramel sauce and a Lotus Biscoff biscuit. We say this is totally the best gelato (Italian ice cream) ever invented.

Pear and Caramel Gelato

Well folks all in all the Christmas menu from Pizza Express is all rather nice I must say. The pizzas are huge so you probably could share one and then you'd have room for the Caramel and Pear Galato AND the Snowball Dough Balls!

But we hadn't finished as in order to properly taste test the Christmas Menu there was something else and that was the Hot Chocolate and Orange drink!

Hot Chocolate Orange Drink

I've added the word 'drink' as that is what it is - only on the night when I posted on Instagram and FaceBook people thought it was a dessert!  Oh yes this is seriously good and proper Hot Chocolate and Orange. But I let Paul have it, I only had a sip as I was now full 😊

Disclosure: We were guests at Pizza Express to try their Christmas Menu. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not required to write anything positive.
