Panasonic Steam Combination Microwave

Having had the Panasonic NN-CS894S Steam Combination Microwave for a few months now I've been busy trying out its many functions.

I'm totally impressed with this oven; whether you are using it for steaming, as a convection oven, microwave, grill or a combination of these, or simply to defrost frozen food, this oven is fantastic.

Chocolate chip cookies made in a steam oven.

When I made my Cheesy Topped Potatoes and Peppers I used the steam function to cook the potatoes followed by the conventional oven and grill.

When used it as a conventional oven as I did to make these cookies you can see it cooks evenly too.

In fact, I'll go as far as to say it's pretty much faultless. When used in the steam only mode it's true the oven walls do get wet, but all is needed is a quick wipe to get it dry again. You can read my review to find out more about this oven and its features.

I've made so many things in it including bread rolls to which I added a shoot of steam during cooking and they were lovely and soft on the inside and perfectly cooked.

Anyway, I thought it was time to try one of the recipes in the book that came with the oven. So as we'd run out of biscuits (and I do like a biscuit with a nice cuppa), Chocolate Chip Cookies it was.

Of course, you can cook on two shelves if you wish since the beauty of the oven not having a turntable enables you to do just that - so why didn't I do that?!

The simple reason even though I have more kitchen accessories and cooking equipment than you can shake a stick at; I don't have a baking tray that's small enough to fit on the wire shelf.

To cook on two shelves you need the supplied enamel tray seen here in my picture.

The second shelf is to have the supplied wire rack with a baking sheet on top which as I say, I don't have one small enough to fit.

Anyway, no big deal I just cooked in two batches. Of course, these cookies can be cooked in an ordinary oven.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Chocolate Chip Cookies - easy to follow recipe.
Prep time: 5 MCook time: 15 MTotal time: 20 M

Ingredients:

  • 100g butter
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 175g plain flour

Instructions:

  1. Preheat on Convection 170C with the wire in the upper shelf position.
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar until pale, then beat in the egg. Mix in the flour until well combined and add the chocolate chips.
  3. Place walnut-sized spoonfuls of dough well apart on a greased baking tray (I like to use non-stick Bacofoil which means no washing up) and flatten with a fork.
  4. Place one baking tray onto the wire shelf in the upper position and with the enamel shelf in the lower position and cook for 10-15 minutes until golden.
  5. Remove the cookies and allow to cool on a wire rack.
