Get Sunshine Ready - Florida Grapefruit Smoothie Recipes

Just look at these delicious smoothies all using Florida Grapefruits - a super fruit!  They're so nutritious and high in vitamin content.  Grapefruit is good for our immune system too; One-half of a medium grapefruit or an 8-ounce serving of grapefruit juice contains at least 100 percent of the Daily Value for vitamin C, which helps support a healthy immune system.  A properly functioning immune system is necessary to help your body resist disease.

We probably all need to eat more fruit and research shows that 79% of women in the UK blame rain and cold weather for making them feel unproductive, but only 39% of these women eat their daily allowance of fruit in the winter so this isn't going to help!

If you're not a lover of grapefruit, how about trying these smoothie recipes developed by Carin Leenders de Vries. I'll start with my personal favorite Red Sunshine Shake.

Red Sunshine Shake for 2 people
Ingredients:
2 Florida grapefruits
200 g frozen raspberries
1 lime (zest and juice)
Fresh ginger
150 ml Greek yogurt
4 ice cubes

Preparation:
Cut the grapefruits in half horizontally, and cut the flesh from the skin with a grapefruit knife.  Put the Florida grapefruit parts in the blender.  Add the frozen raspberries, the lime zest and juice and the Greek yogurt to the blender.  Grate approximately 1.5 cm of the peeled ginger root into the blender.  Blend everything at high speed.  Add 4 ice cubes and crunch the ice.  Serve while it’s still cold!

Grapefruit Heaven for 2 people
Ingredients:

2 Florida grapefruits
½ mango (peeled)
2 slices of pineapple
150 ml orange juice
150 ml coconut milk
1 frozen banana

Preparation:
Cut the grapefruits in half horizontally, and cut the flesh from the skin with a grapefruit knife.  Put the Florida grapefruit pieces in the blender.  Now, peel the skin from the frozen banana with a peeler, cut the banana into pieces and, together with the orange juice and coconut milk, add it to the grapefruit in the blender.  Cut the mango and pineapple into smaller pieces, add this to the other ingredients and blend it at high speed.

Tip: fresh mint goes with this smoothie perfectly!
